DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: — To plan, organise, supervise, control and coordinate the total forestry development programme for the Kingdom of Tonga. — To be responsible for all activities of the Forestry Division. — To advise the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests on matters pertaining to forestry. —To provide a forest extension service within the Kingdom to encourage tree planting by private individuals. — To provide training to forestry personnel. — To advise and assist the local sawmilling industry. — To maintain a record of the Kingdom’s timber resources and its present and foreseen use of timber products. — To liaise and co-operate closely with other Heads of Divisions of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests. — To submit progress reports at regular intervals to the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: — practical experience in organisation and administration. — considerable experience in all aspects of forestry activities, particularly in areas of forest management, sawmilling, timber preservation and farm forestry. — the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with local people. — the ability to adapt to a different cultural and social environment.
