Macartney best pupil
PA Levin Jason Macartney, aged 16, was elected head boy and best pupil at the fifth annual prizegiving ceremony of the Levin apprentice school. The school’s director, Mr Jim Watters, said the influence of the school had been such that from a total of 19 wins in the 1983 school year the tally rose to 56 wins for the 1984 year, which represented a record. Grant Elliot once again headed the list with 26 wins plus 24 seconds and 21 thirds while Tony Allan and Macartney each recorded 15 wins. Macartney is apprenticed to Grant Searle.
