Private TV directive expected

PA Auckland The Government is expected to instruct the Broadcasting Tribunal today to call for applications for private television warrants. Four-warrants are available and will cover New Zealand from bases in Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, and Christchurch. It is believed applications will proceed along similar lines to recommendations contained in a tribunal report to the previous Government in March.

Applicants for the private warrants will have about three months to prepare their cases before the tribunal meets.

A decision is not expected from the tribunal until July.
