Jones still putting
Stuart Jones is not going to shuffle off the golfing scene after all. The veteran Hastings player yesterday scotched a report that he had retired from all competitive golf. Rather, he had said goodbye to the Government Life
(formerly Freyberg Rosebowl) tournament, because of the change of format from seven rounds to nine next year. “I found it hard enough playing seven rounds in four days this year,” said Jones, who has appeared in 30
inter-provincial contests. “But I’m going to carry on playing everything else, including seniors events and pro-ams.” At 59 years of age he will be chasing his sixteenth Hastings club title at Bridge Pa next year.
