The Australian kookaburra has been incorporated into a distinctive logo which will be used to promote the Australian yachts which will be built for the America’s Cup race in 1987. The symbol is being used in a promotional campaign by a syndicate headed by a Perth businessman, Mr Kevin Parry, left, who has guaranteed $6 million for the campaign. At right is the project manager, Mr Peter Gilmour. The kookaburra was chosen because of the bird’s aggressive, determined nature. “Task Force ’87 Defence” is the title of the campaign. Two yachts will be built for the race. The first will be completed by January, 1985, and the second is expected to be completed by the end of 1985.
