Store cattle sell well at Addington
West Coast farmers gave added impetus to a strong sale for all types of store cattle at the Addington market yesterday. , Adult cattle' sold particularly well, more than half the yarding being purchased by West Coast fatteners.
The yarding of 460 adult cattle was too small for the available buying power, resulting in prices being fully firm with last month’s special sales, Competition for cattle was keen,- in spite of; a reduction this week in the export beef schedule and the possibility of another drought in Canterbury. The bulk of the cattle were in ’very good order and included several lines of forward condition adults. Top HerefordFriesiari cross; adult steers from Miller Holdings, Motukarara, sold to $612 and several other vendors sold adults at $5OO to $606.
The yearling yarding of 1121 cattle was dominated by heifers which did not sell quite as well as steers. However, values were easily on a . par with recent rates.
' Top yearlings attracted most interest, a pen of Simmental steers from H. A. Fitzsimmons, Cheviot, making $515. Other good yearling steers ranged from $4OO to
$468; mediums were $360 to $390 and smaller steers round $3OO. The best yearling heifers made to $352 and many sales were between $2BO. and $330. Most of the buying power for yearlings came from local districts, supported by West Coast and southern buyers. Sales included:—
