Shoe shop shelves bare
NZPA-Reuter Moscow Failure to meet production targets has left bare ..shelves in shoe stores in Kalinin, a centre of the Russian cobblers’ trade since the seventeenth century, reports a Moscow newspaper. The daily “Soviet Russia” said that it was a scandal that there should be such a shortage in a city which,
under its pre-revolutionary name of Tver, was famous for its shoemaking industry 300 years ago. It was completely impossible to get sensible seasonal shoes for girls between the ages of 10 and 15 and a whole range of other children’s shoes were rare, the newspaper said.
