THE DOMINANCE of the United States women’s team over its British rivals in the annual Wightman Cup contest continued with a 5-2 win in London last weekend. The Americans, led as usual by Chris Evert-Lloyd, had a tough fight, however, as the British were level, 22, after the first day, before falling on the second day. Mrs Evert-Lloyd has now stretched her unbeaten singles record in the competition to 24 matches. The Americans have won the last six contests and 46 of the 56 played altogether. WESTERN A.F.C. has strengthened its organisation at the top of its senior team for the 1985 soccer season. Ron Healing’s heavy burden has been eased by the appointment of Tony Harvey as manager and chief selector. The two men have devised an agreeable division of duties, by which Mr Healing will continue to coach the side and confer with Mr Harvey on selections.
