More miners go back
NZPA-AAP London Ignoring pleas from their union’s leaders, 387 more miners abandoned the nearly eight-month-old British coal strike yesterday, joining a steady flow back to work. It was the third straight day that the state-owned National Coal Board reported significant numbers breaking ranks with the strike. The total working for the first time this week was more than 1600, the board said.
But 124,000 of Britain’s 180,000 miners were still on strike and three-quarters of its State-owned mines shut.
