Aggravated cruelty denied
PA Auckland Mr Malcolm Douglas, a former member of Parliament, has been remanded for trial on two charges alleging ill-treatment of an animal.
Mr Douglas has denied SPCA charges of aggravated cruelty to a cow and neglecting the cow without reasonable excuse. The charges relate to an incident on Mr Douglas’ Weymouth farm on June 13.
When he appeared in the District Court at Papakura yesterday he was remanded on bail of $lOOO for a hearing on January 24. Outside the court, Mr Douglas was served with a summons on behalf of Ra Ora Stud alleging non-pay-ment of a $lO,OOO service fee.
