Part-time work conditions
PA Blenheim The Methodist Church wants the Government, emSers and unions to act urgency to increase permanent part-time job opportunities. Part-time positions created should carry adequate pay and have the same rights and conditions as full-time workers, said a resolution passed at the Church’s annual conference at Blenheim. Delegates had earlier considered a report on unemployment and possible means of lessening its effects through job-sharing and part-time work. Weighing the benefits and disadvantages of each system, it concluded that job-sharing could play only a minor role in spreading the available work.
“While it (job-sharing) should have our support, attention is probably better directed to improving the conditions for part-time work, as this has far wider implications,” said the report.
