Bomb hoaxer jailed

NZPA-AAP Melbourne A County Court Judge sentenced yesterday a man who “had terrorised and 1 threatened the community”, with bomb hoaxes to six years jail. Judge O’Shea said that Charles Dixon-Jenkins, aged 41, a child psychologist, had caused widespread fear,' anxiety, and community disruption with his threats. He ruled that Dixon-Jen-kins serve a minimum of four years before being eligible for parole. Dixon-Jenkins had pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of threatening to destroy or damage property, seven of making a demand with threat to injure, and two of causing a public nuisance between April 12 and April 19 this year. The Judge said he accepted that one of the reasons for Dixon-Jenkins’s committing the offences was that he might advance the anti-nuclear cause. Dixon-Jenkins said in an unsworn statement that his acts had had' to be outrageous to get attention, and that the safety and continuation of human life from nuclear destruction was a justified reason for superseding laws.
