Guidelines produced for health and safety
PA Wellington The Health Department’s occupational health and toxicology branch has produced new guidelines for the health and safety of workers in the electroplating industry. They were compiled by a working party comprising representatives of the Federation of Labour, the Employers’ Federation, the Accident Compensation Corporation and the Health and Labour departments. The head of occupational health, Dr John Stoke, said that the guidelines provided practical suggestions to ensure that the health of
workers was safeguarded. They were part of a programme of regular reviews of the work-related health problems of major occupations, especially those such as the electroplating industry that had undergone significant technological change in recent years, he said. The guidelines cover the responsibilities of emSers and employees >r the various regulations governing the industry along with safe work practices, maintenance, a workplace check list, chemicals and health assessment criteria.
