Maniototo water price
PA Wellington Farmers should pay $4O a hectare for water from the Maniototo irrigation scheme, a working party has recommended to the Minister of Works, Mr Colman. Mr Colman set up the working party to establish a fair water charge for farmers using the scheme. Farmers linked to the scheme will not pay water charges for the 1984-85 growing season. This was agreed to by the Government because it was likely the water flow would be reduced or intermittent during the first season, said Mr Colman. He said he found it particularly satisfying that the
working party had been able to agree wholeheartedly on its recommendations, which would be put to Government for consideration. The scheme is due to be opened by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, tomorrow.
