NZPA-AP San Jose A criminologist who surveyed 100 prostitutes who were working the economically booming peninsula that houses Silicon Valley, reports that they earn an average of ?U574,000 ($151,700) a year. He found that they enjoyed their work and did not worry about getting caught. “The typical hooker on the peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose enjoys life in the fast lane, travelling often to spots such as Hong Kong, Brazil and Hawaii,” said Ronald Martinelli, a San Jose police officer with a masters degree in criminology, who spent a year conducting the survey. He reported that 71 per cent of the women surveyed said they liked their work. Almost all of the subjects were minors when they started hooking, the study reported, and 81 per cent said that they got into it as a way to make • a lot of money easily.
