SPEEDY CROWN A Study in Greatness On Wednesday, August 15, and Thursday, August 16, 1984, Fancy Crown and Cornstalk became the fastest trotters of all time when they each won at Springfield In 1:53.4. Fancy Crown is sired by Speedy Crown; Cornstalk’s dam Is sired by Speedy Crown. Also on Thursday, Crowning Point equalled the second fastest trotting record of all time when he won at Springfield in 1:54. Crowning Point Is sired by Speedy Crown. Also, on Wednesday, August 15, at Springfield, Speed Boots became the fastest two-year-old trotter of 1984 when he won In 1:56,2. Speed Boots is sired by Speedy Crown. /On Saturday, August 18, at Syracuse Selena Lobell and Bold Vigil won both divisions of the Zweig Memorial. Selena- Lobell and Bold Vigil are both sired by Speedy Crown. Also on Saturday, at Roosevelt Raceway, Crown Wood and Babe Kosmos finished first and second in the American Trotting Championship, qualifying them for the Roosevelt International. Crown Wood and Babe Kosmos are both sired by Speedy Crown. These are some, but by no means all, of Speedy Crown's accomplishments In a period of less than one week. They provide a good example of why Speedy Crown is the greatest trotting sire In the world. He Is the greatest trotting sire of 2:00 speed and the leading sire on a stakes won basis. At all the 1983 yearling sales the average price of all trotting yearlings sold saw Speedy Crown once again come out on top. His stock sold at an average of $U579,600 while in second place was Super Bowl well behind with an average of $U548,994. The only two sons of Speedy Crown Imported Into New Zealand In 1984 are Speedy Summit standing for $4OO at Frank Bebblngton’s Ashburton stud, and Pernod Eden standing for $750 at Steve and Anne Phillips’ Auckland stud.
