Talking cash register
A trial of a talking cash register will be held in Auckland supermarkets later this year, according to the New Zealand agents for the United States cash register company, Data Terminal Systems. The pleasant, simulated voice produced by the cash register can be protl
grammed to call out prices and amounts tendered and give courtesy messages if desired. Overseas reports suggest that the voice output option boosts customer confidence that prices, have been tabulated accurately, particularly where prices are derived from bar code scan-
ning. The option is available on a new model cash register from Data Terminal Systems, which also features advanced communications options, an electronic weighing option, credit authorisation facilities and an electronic funds transfer capability.
