Keeping clear

Sir,—Railway track maintenance employees are required by regulations — not to mention common sense — to stand cleat of the track when a train is about to pass. Consequently, I never know whether to be amused or annoyed' by the mentality of train passengers, who look out of. the window with remarks. like: “Typical railways employees, standing there watching the trains go by.” What do they expect the men to do: stand in the middle of the track and get run over?— Yours, etc., lAN HOOD. Blenheim, November 1, 1984.
