Director knighted
NZAP-AP London David Lean, the Oscarwinning director of “Bridge on the River Kwai” and “Lawrence of Arabia," has been knighted by the Queen in an investiture at Buckingham Palace. After the ceremony, Sir David said he regarded the honour, given for services to the British film industry, as the highest of his career. Sir David, aged 76, has directed 15 films, including “Dr Zhivago,” “Great Expectations,” and “Oliver Twist.” He is now editing his latest film, “A Passage to India,” based on the novel by E. M. Forster.
