Man’s arm slashed

PA Wellington A man is thought to have had his arm virtually severed by a slasher in a brawl at a Wainuiomata hotel last evening. The police said that the man was taken to Hutt Hospital in Lower Hutt with severe arm injuries. Others were also hurt but the extent of their injuries was not known.

The public bar of the Fitzroy Tavern on the Strand was damaged in the fight, about 9.30 p.m. All windows along one side were smashed. The brawl between patrons of the packed bar began when some of the participants of another fight there earlier in the evening, returned, ostensibly to apologise, the police said.
