Population 3,250,500
PA Wellington New Zealand’s population is provisionally estimated to be 3,250,500 at September 30, 1984, says the Government Statistician. The estimate is based on the final count of total population from the 1981 census of 3,175,737, adjusted for natural increase (excess of births over deaths) and net migration. For the year ended September 30, 1984, the population increase was 31,400, or
0.98 per cent, and for the previous 12 months was 48,700, or 1.54 per, cent. During the quarter ended September 30, 1984, there was an estimated increase in population of 17,800, resulting from a natural increase of 6000 and a net gain through migration of 11,800. This compares with the corresponding quarters in 1983 and 1982, when the population increased 15,800 and 12,200 respectively.
