Award for Paterson
PA Auckland Brent Paterson, of Canterbury, has been voted by golf journalists as the New Zealand golfer of the year for the 1983-84 season. Paterson, the Canterbury No. 1, jumped into prominence when he made five
birdies on the first 10 holes to beat Michael Barltrop (Auckland) in the Government Life Freyberg Rose Bowl at Hamilton last November. That win gave Canterbury the rubber and made the Rosebowl win safe.
Paterson received further praise when, as a member of the New Zealand under--26 team, he made the final of the Australian amateur championship and was beaten by the West Australian, Wayne Smith, at the thirty-seventh hole.
