Reality and TV

Sir, — Some of your correspondents hold that violence on

tele vision, does not affect violence in reality. However, it appears that two New Zealanders, and probably more, do not know where the line between television and reality is. On the front page of “The Press” (October 22), Robbie McKay is quoted as saying: “It was all a game to me. It was just like watching television,” when describing his pursuit of the Chelsea food market robbers. On the same page, Barbara Ash is quoted as saying: “It was just like the ‘A Team’ on television” when talking about the abduction of Bruno. Surely this indicates a need to begin facing up to reality and forgetting the concocted dramas of television and video. — Yours, etc., MIRIAM WHITE. October 22, 1984.
