Message of hope
Sir, — The discussion after the Brevet Club’s memorial burning like so much of that on arms proliferation has brought out once again the despair which seems to be permeating and consuming people’s thinking and living more and more. Yet, even though I believe there is no room for complacency, I do not believe the world is doomed to nuclear destruction. The basis for my optimism is that Jesus Christ is coming again and I do not expect his first words to be:'.“Whoops, I seem to have left it too they appear to
have wiped themselves out.” Although many scoff at this view, I believe that those who have lost faith in human wisdom may take comfort that the God who kept his word the first time He promised the coming of Christ, will keep his word the second time. — Yours, etc.,
J. J. VERKERK. October 22, 1984.
