Delay likely over refinery inquiry

PA Auckland The Commission of Inquiry into industrial relations at the Marsden Point oil refinery expansion site is expected to be delayed, according to the the “New Zealand Herald.” The commission, which is due to begin its hearings in Auckland on Monday, will be in the High Court defending its intention to ban cross-examination at the hearings.

The consortium of contractors last week filed for a Court injunction to prevent the inquiry proceeding under the rules set by the chairman of the commission, Mr lan McKay. Counsel for Marsden Refinery Constructors and the commission met a High Court judge in Auckland yesterday to discuss the procedures for the injunction hearing on Monday.
