Lamb drafting

The success of last year’s lamb drafting competition at the Amberley Agricultural and Pastoral show has led to the competition being expanded this year. The president of the show, Mr John Savill, said the competition would be sponsored by the meat board and three freezing companies in Canterbury. Entries in the competition had even been received from the North Island. An addition to this year’s parade would be a moving display of cars, trucks and machinery prior to the Grand Parade. Mr Savill said the vehicles had always been displayed / statically in

previous years. This year, they would be paraded twice around the ring. Another addition to the show would be a static display by the Weka Pass Steam Railway Society. Mr Savill said entries were strong in all major sections of the show and entries had been received from as far afield as Kaikoura in the north, and Waimate in the -south. A renewal of interest in the jersey cow section of the show had occurred, with three different exhibitors having entered. Mr Savill said this was largely due to the renewed interest among younger breeders.
