Zonta show
Traditional European Christmas stockings, patchwork, embroidery, pottery, painting, woodcarving and weaving will feature in the fourth annual art exhibition organised by the Zonta Club of South West Christchurch next week. Sixty artists will have works in the show, which will be held in the Centre Gallery at the Arts Centre next Wednesday and Thursday. Some of the country’s most prominent weavers, potters, painters and craftspeople are exhibiting in the show, which the Zonta group believes is its most varied yet. Among the 20 potters who will have works on display is Paul Fisher, from Oran, who received a commendation for his entry in the Fletcher Brownbuilt Pottery Award. Others include Beverley Ferguson, Wyn Wilkie, Doris Low, Sue Jenkinson, Esme Lyon and Irene Bolton.
Four china painters will
exhibit work, along with three woodcatvers and woodturners and seven weavers. The weaving will include shawls by Veronica Larsen, Christmas stockings made by Ursula Bendien and batik by Anne Hay from Taumarunui. Embroidery, by Noeline Mcllroy and patchwork cotcovers, rag dolls and accessories by Dawn Laughlin will also be on display, along with home-spun hand knitting by Mary Ellen Brockett. The printmakers in the show will be Malcolm Warr, of Waikanae, Graham Collins and Margo Alexander, of Christchurch, and Graeme Stradling, of Motueka. There will also be a wide range of paintings. The exhibition will be opened by the Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be open to the public on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. All proceeds will go to charity.
