Tonight’s movie
The American actors, Alan Alda and Meryl Streep, are the stars of the 1979 film, “The Seduction of Joe Tynan,” screening on One tonight. Alda also wrote “The Seduction of Joe Tynan,” his first screenplay for a feature film, though the television star had already won awards for writing and directing his “M*A*S*H” series.
“The Seduction of Joe Tynan” was Meryl Streep’s fourth feature film. Her fifth, “Kramer Vs Kramer,” made her a super star, and
her career has not faltered since. In “The Seduction of Joe Tynan,” when Senator Joe Tynan (Alda) wins passage for his bill to give jobs to the unemployed in spite of strong opposition, Washington is abuzz with news and its new political wonder boy. Tynan finds he is entering that period in every successful man’s life when major romantic and political choices present themselves. Also appearing in the film are Barbara Harris, Rip Torn and Melvyn Douglas.
