Individuals dominate
PA Dunedin Exceptional individual performances dominate the final six nominations for the 1984 New Zealand sportsman of the year award. There was only one team among the six nominations, announced yesterday by the Murray Halberg Trust for Crippled Children, from which the winner will be named at a dinner in Dunedin on November 15. The final nominations are:— @ The New Zealand men’s world champion softball team.
0 Susan Devoy, the British open, squash champion and No. 1 ranked woman. ® Richard Hadlee, who achieved a 1000 runs and took 100 wickets in English county cricket and was voted the best player in the championship. ® The Olympic triple gold medal canoeist, lan Ferguson. ® The Olympic gold medallist in Finn class yachting, Russell Coutts. ® The gold medal winner in the Olympic three-day equestrian event, Mark Todd.
