Russia chastises Armenia
NZPA-Reuter Moscow The Soviet Communist Party has ordered party leaders in Armenia to crack down on corruption, religion, and bad management and to instil a more Soviet frame of mind among officials. The order was contained in a decree from the party’s central committee, which has issued similar edicts to four other republics this year. The people of Armenia, a small Caucasian. republic bordering Turkey, share with nearby Georgia and Azerbaijan a reputation for private enterprise and a shaky commitment to communism. Listing Armenia’s faults, the decree said that many of the republic’s party officers were little involved in ideological work and had no political education. There were serious shortcomings in anti-religi-ous teaching, many scientific and artistic creations embodied non-communist values, and many economic enterprises broke laws and failed to fulfil their targets, it said.
