Placid Victor, Frederick coming south

Special correspondent Auckland Placid Victor and Frederick are to be entered for races on the first two days of the New Zealand Trotting Cup meeting at Addington early next month. Whether they run, though, will depend on transport arrangements, their trainer, Sandy Purdon, said at Pukekohe yesterday. The two fine three-year-olds have qualified for the 8100,000 final of the New Zealand Sires’ Stakes senes at Addington on November 13. “That is their mam mission,, of course,” Purdon l’m thinking of running them earlier at the meeting.” n Purdon wants to ny Placid Victor and Frederick to Christchurch. He is unsure at this stage, however, whether this can be arr*fdeally,” he said, “v

would like to fly them down the day before the race. But if they have to go a good deal earlier, I will consider running them on either of the first two days, or both.” Placid Victor and Frederick qualified for the final when they filled the first two placings in the first North Island semi-final at Alexandra Park on October 16. The pair’s form this season has been quite outstanding, Placid Victor having won his last five races on end and Frederick notching two wins and a second from as many attempts. Purdon said Maurice McKendry would again drive Placid Victor at Addington, but he had not decided who would pilot Frederick. Peter Wolfenden has been the regular driver of Placid Victor and Frederick. He chose to drive Frederick in the semi-final. He will be unable to drive either of Purdon’s horses at

Addington, having previously been engaged for Billbob. Trained by Purdon’s brother Roy and nephew Barry, Billbob has yet to qualify for the final but this looks to be a mere formality when he contests the other North Island semifinal at Cambridge on Friday evening. It was to have been the feature race at the Bay of Plenty Trotting Club’s meeting but the response was so poor — there are only six acceptors — it will be run as a non-totalisator event. Roy and Barry Purdon also have Bardon Bridge in the field. Bardon Bridge has not had much luck in his latest races, but he is very speedy and will be suited by the mobile mile. Billbob and Bardon Bridge’s trainers, like Sandy Purdon, are keen to fly their horses, providing they qualiftt- to Addington the day Before the race.
