Young New Zealand cricketers beaten
NZPA special correspondent Harare South Zimbabwe won its. limited-overs match against the visiting Young New Zealand cricket side by six wickets with 12 overs to spare at the Harare Sports The New Zealanders, chasing 279 for four wickets scored off 50 overs, were all out for 141 in only 38 overs. The Zimbabwe team, revitalised after a string of humiliating defeats by the tourists, now has a 2-1 lead in the four-match limitedovers series. The Zimbabwe wicketkeeper, David Houghton, hit a superb 119 not out, the first century of the one-day series. Houghton and Graeme Hick, who scored 61, put on 168 runs for the fourth wicket in 111 minutes. Young New Zealand used seven bowlers but all proved expensive. John Bracewell, who returned a creditable three for 30 off his 10 overs, was the only bowler to not concede an average of six or more runs off each over. The New Zealanders, needing to score at a rate of more than 5.6 runs an over to win, were soon in trouble, losing five wickets for 42. Jeff Crowe (11), Vaughan Brown (59), and John Brace-
well (59) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Scoreboard:— ZIMBABWE K. Wilton c Tracy b Bracewell 24 A. Shah c Tracy b Bracewell 16 D. Fletcher c’ McSweeney b Bracewell ...... 27 D.
