Auckland girl wins five titles

Paula Ashbridge, of Auckland, a Pan Pacific champion, was the outstanding competitor at the New Zealand trampoline championships which finished at Cowles Stadium yesterday. Ashbridge won all five events she entered and produced some world-class performances on the trampoline and double mini trampoline. Yesterday she added the women’s 15 to 17 years trampoline and double mini titles to the three she won on the first two days of the championships. On the trampoline, Ashbridge gave a controlled performance to score a high 32.2 points. Darlene Harvey, also of Auckland, gave a polished routine to finish second, and Suzi Nevell, of Canterbury, produced a top performance to finish third. In terms of fierce competition, the girls’ and boys’ under 10 sections were the

closest fought. The standard was high and in the girls’ 10 years and under, double mini event, only one point separated the first seven girls. Michelle Bailey, of Canterbury, in the girls’ 10 years and under section, and Kirk Robinson, of Canterbury, in the boys’ 11 and 12 years section, both performed consistently and with a high degree of skill throughout the championships.
