Inter Pro software user-friendly
Concurrent with the announcement of the A 3 family of small mainframes, Burroughs announced a series of new system software products for its mainframes, a package linking microcomputers to mainframes and a set of application packages written in LINC. The new system software products have been grouped under the name “Inter Pro for "Interactive Productivity.” Individually they improve the user-friendliness of existing Burroughs software products. Collectively, Burroughs claims, the tools eliminate special systems languages (such as Burroughs’ Network Definition Language) so “the progress of the business is not held back by computer problems.” Inter Pro products include a menu facility to enable users to operate a Burroughs mainframe computer through a series of
menus, rather than using the operating system’s command language, a screen design facility, an interactive network configurator, a new transaction processing system, an advanced .data dictionary system and a menu-driven query program which can output information in graphical form on any standard terminal or printer. , Burroughs staff described the Inter Pro products as giving customers who are not using LINC some of the features already present in LINC. They said that the InterPro products are all compatible with LINC, although in some cases LINC provides similar facilities and a LINC user would not need to rent the equivalent InterPro tool. The new microcomputer-to-mainframe package, called Host-Link, allows Burroughs ET 2000 microcomputers to communicate
with Burroughs mainframe computers. Host-Link is claimed to go far beyond existing systems, which generally limit, communications to simple file transfers. It allows a microcomputer user to store files on the mainframe, share peripheral devices in the network, transfer files between microcomputers and’ mainframes, and allows programs on the microcifrnputer to communicate with programs on the mainfrsmc CLASS (for Custom LINC Application Software Solu-. tion) is the first complete set of application packages written in LINC, the Christ-church-developed fourthgeneration language for Burroughs computers. Written in the United States, CLASS encompasses order entry and invoicing, accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll and general ledger.. -
