Repco builds $9M centre
Repco Corporation’s New Zealand division has begun building a new complex at Mount Wellington, Auckland, become the distribution centre for all Repco products in this country. It will cost more than $9 million. It is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The 12,700 sq m complex will comprise both a warehouse and an office area. There will also be an 836 sq m area to service customers visiting the centre. Executives of the Repco Corporation New Zealand visited the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan to view complexes before planning began. The managing director of Repco Corporation N.Z., Mr L. P. Evans, said that the result would be the most effective warehouse of its kind in Australia and New Zealand. “We will be using electronic eyes and sensor mechanisms in one area to locate and deliver stock to dispatch points. “Extensive use of operations research techniques has been incorporated in the design and systems in order to maximise the flow of goods, and the day-to-day operations will be controlled totally by computer programmes.” Initially, the facility will service 35 outlets of the spareparts business, Motor Specialities, Ltd, 14 outlets of the materials handling, construction and agricultural equipment marketing company, Paykel Engineering, and the 13 outlets of the engine reconditioner, Engine Rebuilders, Ltd. In time, however, the complex will become a complete distribution centre for all the products and groups of Repco Corporation New Zealand. The head offices of Motor Specialities and Paykel will join Repco Distribution Centre staff and Repco New Zealand Computer Services staff in the new office area.
