Rhododendron show awards
Diana Phillips, of Christchurch, won the premier award, for the champion bloom, at the annual rhododendron show held at the Horticultural Hall during the weekend. The winning truss, from Mrs Phillips’s plant, Alice, also won the awards for best pink and best hybrid. The award for champion species was won by Riverwood Gardens, Little River, with a truss of Rhododendron lindleyi. This truss also won the award for best maddeni. Other main awards in the show were: Best blue, Mrs M. Tapley, Pigeon Bay; best yellow, R. J. and Mrs Coker, Christchurch; best red, Jordan’s Nursery, Ashburton; best orange, Mrs J. M. Simpson, Springston; best white, J. M. and Mrs Kerr, Christchurch; best novice, G. and Mrs Wallis, Christchurch; best azalea, R. J. and Mrs Coker; best triflorum, Clark family, Christchurch; best traditional arrangement, R. J. Coker. ■ ■
