Swart leads Waikato tour
PA Hamilton Jack Swart has taken the lead in the Chartwell Tour of the Waikato after a strong ride in the 11km time trial yesterday afternoon. The Waikato man was third overall starting the second day yesterday morning behind Stephen Cox (Hamilton) and Graeme Miller, of Auckland. Cox lost the leader’s yellow jersey and his chance in the tour when he punctured after 80 kilometres in the morning stage. He chased and caught the main bunch to find the stronger riders had already moved away. Cox’s group lost eight minutes in the 124 km stage. Miller maintained his unbeaten record in stage finishes by outsprinting his fellow Aucklander, Paul Leitch, who in turn beat Swart by 14s.
