Cricket Clear win to Woolston
Woolston W.M.C. was the only side to record an outright victory in the first round of the Suburban senior A cricket competition. Southern Districts had declared at their overnight total of 131 for seven, and Woolston went on to make 175 for six in its second innings before declaring. Set to score 165 runs in 140 min Southern Districts were never in a position to challenge this total and were finally all out for 96. Woolston’s Gary Baxter did most of the damage, taking six wickets for 27 runs. In a close and exciting finish Upper Riccarton failed by just three runs to gain an outright win over Merivale-Papanui.
