Canterbury Belle gallops fast in training
By
J. J. BOYLE
Canterbury Belle left her stamp of brilliance on Riccarton training yesterday. In her build-up for the Geraldine Challenge Stakes on Saturday, she showed that all systems were working smoothly by sprinting 800 m brilliantly in 47.45. She did her piece on the No. 1 grass, which could not have been quite at its fastest after rain on Monday night Later Tui’s Imp came up with 50 when paired with Go Son for 800 m.
Blarney Fair, another three-year-old filly, was sent out to gallop in company, but broke away ahead and dashed through her 800 m alone in 49.85.
Blarney Fair’s stablemate, Dreamville, ran 1600 m in Imin 49.65, quick-
ening for the last 800 m in 51.25. He appears to have thrived for Ned Thistoll recently, and has a chance to confirm that impression in the Charles McDonald Memorial at the Geraldine meeting. Julie’s Boy, another McDonald Memorial candidate, worked with a will to lead Miss Tryphena Bay by two lengths finishing 1200 m in Imin 18.45, the last 800 m in a creditable 48.85. Julie’s Boy resumed promisingly with a fast-finishing fourth in the Geraldine Cup on September 24. Dainty Dish sprinted her 800 m in 51.45. She won the first two races of a light programme last season, and will come in for some attention when Mick Murfitt launches her on her five-year-old programme.
