F.E. market ‘flat’
PA Wellington The New Zealand foreign exchange market was quiet yesterday in what dealers said was a “flat, featureless” day. With a holiday in the United States overnight and one coming up in Japan today, dealers said a number of operators were maintaining a low profile. The U.S. dollar touched 247 yen but dealers said it failed to penetrate through the level convincingly. Yen closed at 246.93/03 compared with its opening at 246.60/70. Similarly, dealers said, the dollar failed to go through 3.05 marks with any authority although the closing level was at 3.0505/15 compared with the opening at 3.0470/00. Sterling traded quietly in a range between 1.2385 U.S. dollars and the low of 1.2350. The New Zealand dollar traded in a range between 0.4877 U.S. dollars and 0.4883. The Reserve Bank indicative mid-rate closed at 0.4875 compared with the opening at 0.4878. Trade in the Australian dollar was quiet again yesterday and it moved only in a 10 point range between 0.8330 U.S. dollars and 0.8340. It finished at 0.8334/ 39 compared with the opening at 0.8333/38.
