Kits flown in
PA Auckland Thousands of natural gas conversion kits are being flown to New Zealand because demand far exceeds supplies coming by sea. One Auckland-based supplier, Auto Sistema, is airfreighting 2000 compressed natural gas kits and 1000 liquefied petroleum gas kits from Italy this month. The company is flying in 1000 L.P.G. tanks from Australia, and 500 kits are due to arrive by sea. The general manager, Mr Tony Dowling, said yester-
day that since the July devaluation outstanding orders for C.N.G. kits for installers had reached 1700.
He expected the orders would be met by the end of this month.
An estimated 70,000 C.N.G. kits had been sold since the conversion programme began five years ago.
Sales this year should top 32,000 and suppliers were confident the Government’s aim of 200,000 conversions by 1990 could be achieved.
