Offers on two ferries

PA Blenheim The Railways Corporation has accepted offers to buy the two former Cook Strait ferries, the Aramoana and the Aranui, said the general manager, Mr Gordon Purdy, yesterday. The two ferries have been laid up at Wellington berths since they came off the Strait run — the Aramoana in March of last year and the Aranui on June 17. Mr Purdy said an overseas interest had

offered to buy the Aranui,

with the offer on the Aramoana coming from within New Zealand. “We had negotiated with several people about the Aramoana but the deals all fell through,” he said. Mr Purdy would not comment further on where the offers came from, because he was waiting to hear from the two principals before any deals could be finalised. “They have yet to pay a deposit and take the vessels away,” he said.
