At Merivale we’re different . . jp-' .. . sometimes every week This week you’re invited to a pottery fair. Gardenway is well known for its selection of hand-made pottery pots for plants and is fortunate to have dedicated potters producing hundreds of items to maintain the selection at 5 branches. But there are potters who produce superb works in ones and twos, never-to-be-repeated exhibition pieces, or a few fun firings between ideas or continents. During the past months we’ve journeyed, waited expectantly while kilns cooled and finally gathered enough at Merivale for our Pottery Fair. t There’s a family affair The talented Hockenhull family from Wellsford, north of Auckland contributed unique pottery. Scott threw a selection of cubes and dishes including the very large slab planter illustrated. Prices range from $7 .99 to $199.50. Barbara’s bonsai dishes and cactus pots are delightful and Aaron modelled the strikingly glazed mushroom groups. And farewell to Brent Firkin Brent and his family have gone to Queensland for a lengthy stay, his dainty leaf motif pots will run out long before his return. Isabel Rowe’s porcelain planters from $7.99 are something new contrasting with Jonathon Neale’s glazed stoneware in earthy greens and blues. Trevor Briggs’ brightly coloured pots are made for the smallest to the largest house plants, priced from $3.99 to $2O. Why wait for a birthday, bring your card. Birthdays, anniversaries are great opportunities for receiving special gifts and are often well worth the hints, name-dropping and manoeuvring that’s necessary. But when you see the new wooden tubs at only $12.50 or patio pots at flowering peak with pansies or violas, can you wait? . Fortunately there’s always Bankcard or Visa. Gardenway
