Man badly injured in car roll
A young Merivale man is seriously ill in the intensivecare unit at Christchurch Hospital after the car in which he was travelling rolled over in Burwood yesterday afternoon. Richard Collins, aged 20, of 25 Clissold Street, suffered serious head and leg injuries in the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Burwood Road and Alpine View Road at about 4.25 p.'rn.
Two women occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries. Ngaire Giles, of 61 Effingham Street, North New Brighton, was treated in hospital for chest injuries and discharged. The name of the other woman was not available. The accident was one of a number that had Christchurch ambulance services stretched for several hours yesterday. A schoolboy narrowly es-
caped serious injury when he was struck by a truck outside his home at 34 Bromley Road. James Bradbrook, aged six, suffered moderate leg injuries in the accident, which occurred about 12.30 p.m.
Three cars were involved in an accident at the intersection of Clyde Road and Ham Road at 6.30 p.m. A man suffered minor head injuries and a woman minor back injuries.
Julian Turner, aged 17, of 114 Office Road, Merivale, suffered minor head injuries and cuts when the bicycle he was riding and a car collided at the intersection of Fendalton Road and Straven Road • at 3.20 p.m. Bruce Ellis, of 97 McFaddens Road, Mairehau, was treated for minor injuries after the cycle he was riding and a car collided at the intersection of Bealey Avenue and Manchester Street at 5.50 p.m. Motor-cyclists were involved in three acci-. dents.
A man suffered moderate arm and leg injuries when his machine and a car collided at the intersection of Gloucester Street and Barbadoes Street just after 7 p.m. Two men were treated for minor injuries when the motor-cycle on which they were riding and a car collided on the Main South Road near Foremans Road at 8 p.m. A man, aged 20, also suffered minor injuries when his motor-cycle and a car collided at the intersection of Bealey Avenue and Colombo Street at 9.10 p.m.
Two men suffered moderate injuries when two cars collided at the junction of Keighleys Road and Linwood Avenue, Bromley, about 7.50 p.m. Their names
were not available. Leon Frapwell, aged 16, of 28 Croziers Road, Mairehau, suffered serious leg injuries when the motorcycle he was riding and a van collided. Details of the accident were not available.
