Vin d’Amour improved
Special correspondent Woodville Vin d’Amour has improved with her Hastings run and should pose a bigger threat in the Lowland Stakes at Masterton tomorrow. Woodville holds a strong hand in the event, with Pamaleta another possibility. There is some doubt about a start for the third acceptor, Helen’s Joy. Fast work was done on the centre of the course proper, which was slightly easy. Vin d’Amour and Our Jetty were not at top when they ran 1000 m in s.Bs,
the last 600 m in 39.35. The trainer, Jeff Lynds, is satisfied with the progress made by Vin d’Amour since she ran third in the Gold Trail Stakes. Garry Williams will ride her again. Our Jetty will resume in the Members Handicap and could go welL Pameleta and Chanting Rosa sprinted 600 m smartly in 36.55. Pamaleta jumps up in class in the Lowland, but scored well enough at Otaki to be respected. Chanting Rosa’s form has been mixed lately. Belmore worked r evenly over 1200 m in lmin 20s, the last 600 m in 40s. He has not raced since
August last year, but should go well when resuming in the Members Handicap at Masterton. Guinness ran 1000 m in lmin 5.45, the last 600 m in 38.45. Guinness is an improver on a good track in the Members Handicap. A race rival, Big Spender, expected to miss New Plymouth, was given a run down the straight and looked well Giveaway worked from the 1000 m, increasing speed over the final 600 m in 395. Tioga Mellay has a stone bruise and will not start at Masterton. Schedule is another which will be absent. X
