Commissionaire works well
Special correspondent Palmerston North
Commissionaire and Manchu galloped in good style at Awapuni yesterday morning in preparation for today’s Perry Dines Stakes at New Plymouth though there is a chance Manchu could race at Masterton instead. Their trainer Noel Eales was to decide later about Manchu which will be ridden by David Peake. Maurice Campbell will be on the horse if he races at Masterton.
Both Commissionaire and Manchu look in the pink of condition with Manchu the more seasoned of the pair. Should both start at Taranaki, Eales will have a powerful hand in the race. He has Bidston Hill engaged at Masterton tomorrow’and that horse was impressive in his work yesterday. So was Lomondy, unbeaten in his last two starts.
Working on an easy course proper, Commissionaire and Manchu were together and well matched at the end of 1200 m in lmin 20s, the last 600 m in 39.45. With the possibility of a good track today both will be favoured to race well. Bidston Hill worked with Cuchulainn over 1200 m in lmin 21s, the last 600 m in 40.65. Bidston Hill is close to his best and a big effort is expected at Masterton. Cuchulainn will be hard to beat in the highweight. Axle and Fast Track, two top prospects for Masterton, ran 1000 m in lmin 6.45, the last 600 m in 39.45. Under the Clock and Cus-
tom ran 800 m in 51s, the last 600 m in 38s. Under the Clock is back to 1400 m at Masterton. Jim Walker will ride him.
Magnitude and Isle A Gree were together over 1000 m in lmin 7s, the last 600 m in 39s but both may improve with a race at Masterton.
The Wellington Guineas candidate, Skybiri, left 800 m behind in 51.65, the last 600 m in 37.65. He ran second at the Marton meeting and will not be disgraced at Trentham.
Lomondy and Quite Regal were timed 1000 m in lmin Ils, the last 600 m in 425. Lomondy looks well placed to win again at Masterton. Quite Regal is an improver for Taranaki today.
