PA Wellingtoi An Auckland songwriter Hammond Gamble, has woi the 1984 APRA Silver Scrol for his song, “Midnight.” The Silver Scroll and i cheque for ?1000 an awarded annually by th< Australasian Performinj Right Association, Ltd, foi the best popular work re corded and broadcast in the year. The other, finalists were:
>n Stephen Bell-Booth, for , “Never Looking Back”; Jeff r, Clarkson, for “Dear Jean•n nie”; Garry Curtis and 11 Andrew Fagan, for “Swear It’s True”; Andrew Dickson a and Liam Ryan, for “You ■e Took Me Heart and Soul”; le Wayne Gillespie, for “Away ig With You”; Dave McArtney, >r for “Dance On”; Andrew McLennan, for “As Good As ie It Gets”; and Eddie O’Strange, for “Living On Love.”
The presentation was made at a function in Auckland by Ray Columbus, a previous scroll winner. Announcing the Silver Scroll winner, APRA’s general manager, Mr Bernie Darby, said an additional award of 5250 was being made this year for a highly commended entry. It went to Wayne Gillespie, of Auckland, whose composition was “Away With You.”
