Warm month at Lincoln
Last month was the warmest August this century, according to weather observations made at Lincoln College. The only warmer August recorded was in 1893. It was also the windiest August this century, averaging 4.2 metres a second. The rainfall at 14.7 mm was the lowest since 1959.
Although the mean temperature was high, the high winds produced significant wind-dull on many occasions. The warmth accelerated spring development considerably, and pasture growth had been good. August’s comparatively high temperatures brought to a close the warmest winter at Lincoln since records were begun in 1880.
