Shipping news Fault delays loading
The loading of the container vessel A.C.T. 2 was delayed for about nine hours last Sunday because of a fault in the container crane’s main supply cable. The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s chief engineer, Mr J. B. Bushell, told the recent meeting of the board’s trade and commercial development committee that moisture had leaked into the Ukv cable causing it to blow out. The fault was fixed by Municipal Electricity Department staff and Harbour Board electricians. The replacement cost of the cable was now estimated at about $25,000, Mr Bushell said.
