Scientists want twins
PA Whangarei Scientists at Ruakura urgently need 10 sets of identical twin Friesian bull calves on which to test a new American growth stimulant. The scientists say the trials, possibly worth millions of dollars in improved productivity to New Zealand, may not continue unless they can find the identical twins within the next few days. The Ministry of Agriculture scientists already have 10 sets of the Friesian or Friesian-cross bull calves but say they desperately need a further 10 sets. Trials in the United States of the hormonal stimulant on the calves have shown startling muscle growth with less fat produced and a general increase in growth rates. The scientists say New Zealand is the only other country in the world which has samples of the stimulant to test.
